We shall now discuss about Events and Seminars about Aerospace

Invited Talk by Dr. R K Mishra

The Department of Aerospace Engineering, R V College of Engineering organised an invited talk on “Development of Gas Turbine Engines for Fighter Aircraft-The

Challenge for Aeronautical Students” on 25 th September between 09.30 AM to 12.30 PM at Telecommunication Seminar Hall, R V College of Engineering, Bangalore. The talk was delivered by Dr R K Mishra, Scientist-G, Additional Director, Center for Military Airworthiness and Certification, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Bangalore. The talk was mainly aimed at the II and III year students of Aerospace Engineering Department.

The invited talk begun with a formal welcoming of the speaker as well as addressing the gathering. The talk was preceded by a brief introduction by the Head of the Department, Aerospace Engineering. The talk had precisely begun at 09.45AM with a brief introduction to the gas turbine engines and their working principles. In his talk, Dr Mishra emphasized the role and importance of Gas Turbine Engines for aeronautical applications, both civil and military aircrafts. During the talk, more importance were given to the development of engines for military aircrafts, because unlike the engines for civil airplanes, the engines meant for fighter aircrafts had much bigger role to perform than just take-off, cruise and land.

The speaker stressed about the underlying challenges for fighter aircrafts. Fighter aircrafts will be subjected to worst possible environments, be it hot arid temperatures of Rajasthan or the Chilly weathers of Siachen or the treacherous mountains of the North Eastern India. The fighter aircrafts has to operate flawlessly and comply to the demands of the mission. Also the speaker reiterated about the potential damages caused to the engines of fighter aircrafts due to Foreign object Damage (FOD), Surge and Stall at high angles of attack, Take-off from a reduced runway/hot summer day etc. While performing in these extreme environments and conditions, the engine components has to withstand all the adverse phenomenon and has to support the aircrafts demands whenever and wherever required. Later the speaker also highlighted the concurrent challenges faced by engineers while designing, simulation, prototyping, manufacturing, testing and certification of a fighter aircraft engine. Finally, the speaker also highlighted the various opportunities exclusive to Aerospace Engineers in the design and development of a propulsion system for a fighter aircraft.

In addition to the above, the talk was further made interesting by an interactive session, during which the thought provoking questions posed by students were brilliantly answered by the speaker. The talk turned out to be very informative and inspiring for the highly motivated students. The session was concluded by a brief vote of thanks and a token of appreciation by our beloved students and faculty members. Get Management Quota Admission in RV Engineering College

Invited Talk by Dr. C D Balaji

The Department of Aerospace Engineering, R V College of Engineering organised an invited talk on “AN INTRODUCTION TO AEROSPACE DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT – AN LCA EXPERIENCE” on 09 th October, 2017 between 09.30 AM to 12.30 PM at Telecommunication Seminar Hall, R V College of Engineering, Bangalore. The talk was  delivered by Dr. C D Balaji, Distinguished Scientist, Chairman, Center of Excellence in Aerospace & Defence (CEAD), Former Program Director (Combat Aircraft) & Director, Aeronautical Development Agency, Ministry of Defence, Bangalore. The main goal of the talk was to provide a detailed insight involved in the design and development of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) TEJAS Aircraft to the II & III year students of Aerospace Engineering Department, R V College of Engineering. The invited talk begun at exactly 10.00AM with a formal welcoming of the speaker as well as addressing the gathering. The talk was preceded by a brief introduction

by the Head of the Department, Aerospace Engineering. Dr C D Balaji commenced the talk with a brief discussion on the basic Aerodynamic characterization and classification of the aircrafts. The major theme of the discussion revolved around the detailed design procedures like initial requirements, preliminary design, simulation, wind tunnel testing, detailed design, tooling, manufacture, assembly and ground & flight testing. During the talk, the speaker shed some light on the possible scenario of the military fixed wing airplanes of present, near future and next decade aircrafts. Dr C D Balaji specified the major technical differences and requirements of the 4th, 4.5 and 5th generation aircrafts for military applications. He emphasized the need of stealth technology and distributed propulsion systems for advanced fighter aircrafts responsible for maintaining the geo-political stability of our country. Dr C D Balaji advocated the need of understanding the importance of augmenting the combat aircraft technology requirements for a fighter aircraft. The combat aircraft  technology for a fighter aircraft focused towards augmenting stringent aerodynamics, highly efficient airframe structure, advanced propulsion systems with superior thrust-to- weight ratios, advanced integrated avionics and weapon delivery systems, fully authorized digital fly-by- light flight control systems etc. Later the speaker also highlighted the concurrent challenges faced by engineers while designing, simulation, prototyping, manufacturing, testing and certification of a fighter aircraft engine. Finally, the speaker also highlighted the various opportunities exclusive to Aerospace Engineers in the design and development of a fighter aircraft.
