A brief on NMIMS’s School of Design
NMIMS’s School of Design is a definitive pathway for those students who harbour a creative and an artistic bent of mind while also being enthusiastic about technology. For today, the role of a designer is varied—it combines design with technology and cognitive and behavioural sciences to serve business and social needs. Understanding the B.Des Program:
NMIMS Mumbai offers a unique B.Des program titled “Humanising Technology.” This four-year program focuses on equipping students with the skills to bridge the gap between design and technology, fostering creative problem-solving in a tech-driven world.

What we do in four years?
The curriculum of this undergraduate ‘degree’ program is in sync with the changing paradigm of Design profession integrating Design Fundamentals (Design Technicals) with Multi-Disciplinary Fundamentals (Design Influencers). The Design Technicals comprise the core design modules, whilst the Design Influencers include modules in Psychology, Sociology, Technology and Management. In order to equip students to build problem solving skills and sensibilities, knowledge is imparted to enable them arrive at solutions that can be multi-stream/ level manifestation. The foundation program is spread over two years, including the basic knowledge of all the streams of Design.
In years I & II, students are exposed rigorously to Design Fundamentals and get an introductory view of Design Influencers through assisted teaching environments. All modules over two years progressively increase in complexity and are exhaustive.
The years III & IV, focus on deep dives and tinkering to contextualise the assimilated knowledge, to create impactful solutions by exploring emergent technologies. There is also a focus on professionalisation of the student with an internship. The students are expected to converge and leap through creative studios, internship and the degree project.
